Founded by François Lazarevitch, Les Musiciens de Saint-Julien is an ensemble of specialised musicians, varying in size according to the requirements of the works performed. Its repertoire consists of early art music, from the Middle-Ages to Baroque, and traditional music. The aim of an ensemble named after the famous Confrérie Saint-Julien-des-Ménétriers is to present and bring to life music that is simple and straightforward, and to revive oral traditions. The spirit of the dance, the freshness of the musical phrasing and the instrumental colours lie at the heart of each of its programmes, which appeal to the audience's emotions, as well as feeding its curiosity.
Les Musiciens de Saint-Julien has performed in Europe and in America, in France at the Festival of Saint-Chartier, the Salle Cortot, the Sénat, the Centre de Musique Baroque of Versailles, the Maison Française of Washington, the Ciclo de Musica Antigua in Mexico, the Bach Academy in Arques-la-Bataille, the Festival Baroque of Pontoise and the Lille Opera.
After the first two CDs Danses des bergers, danses des loups and À l’ombre d’un ormeau – brunettes et contredanses au XVIIIe Siècle, recorded on the Alpha label, with the support of Mécénat Musical Société Générale, the third CD of the series 1000 years of bagpipe music in France, entitled Le Berger poète, was released on 4th June.
Les Musiciens de Saint-Julien have been in partnership for 3 years with the Académie Bach and the Festival Baroque de Pontoise (2010-2012).
