J'avoy crû qu'en vous aymant

De la cour de Louis XIV aux bergeries du siècle des Lumières

Presentation

Over more than twenty years, François Lazarevitch and Les Musiciens de Saint-Julien have developed a distinctive approach to early music, in which refined phrasing, a keen sense of dance and the art of ornamentation come together with effortless grace. Their recordings bear witness to a patient process of rediscovery and transmission, bringing renewed attention to pieces such as J’avois crû qu’en vous aymant, which have become emblematic of this repertoire.

This programme brings together highlights from two albums: À l’ombre d’un ormeau, devoted to eighteenth-century brunettes and contredanses, and Doux silence, which explores seventeenth-century airs de cour and dances. Through the interplay of voice and flute, this musical journey brings to life the poetry of unrequited love and the gentle melancholy of past passions. From the court of Louis XIV to the rustic festivities of the Age of Enlightenment, it paints an evocative portrait of a century of French music, blending refinement, grace and emotion. The programme also features the dazzling Variations sur la Fürstemberg, in which dance, energy and virtuosity intertwine in a brilliant musical firework display.
