Introduction

This third volume of the Musiciens de Saint-Julien editions is dedicated to the early music of Ireland. It brings together the complete programme of the CD The High Road to Kilkenny (Alpha 234), published for upper instrument or high voice with bass accompaniment, and can be played on all types of instruments.
Gaelic and the instrumental pieces it includes were written in the 17th and 18th centuries in Ireland, and published in the 18th and 19th centuries. The pieces over a variety of genres, including extremely refined and learned poetry (Lord Mayo, Sir Ulick Burke) as well as entertaining songs and dances (Do Chuirfinnse Féin Mo Leanbh a Chodladh, Oro Mhor a Mhoirin, Kitty’s Wishes’).
