On the banks of the beautiful blue Danube

Musical journey to Austria-Hungary in the 19th century

Presentation

This new program entitled On the banks of the beautiful blue Danube is a musical journey to the heart of the regions of the Austro-Hungarian Empire also called the Danube Monarchy. It presents a great diversity of styles combining works by composers such as Schubert, Beethoven, Strauss and Ivanovici.

Instrumentally, we can hear virtuoso variations for the csakan, a sort of Hungarian avatar of the recorder, a recorder equipped with keys and dating from the 19th century. Part of the Beauté barbare team comes together for the occasion: Hélène Richaud on vocals and cello, Iurie Morar on cimbalom. Éric Bellocq will play a Kontraguitare (two-neck guitar equipped with bass strings allowing playing in the contra-bass register). This Kontraguitar appeared at the beginning of the 19th century and is used today in Austrian folk music. This program, designed in a clever mix with traditional Viennese, Hungarian, Serbian and Romanian tunes, offers us a surprising palette of colors and energies.
